Accu-Chek Products » Insulin Pumps

Choose the infusion set you like best

There are really two parts to insulin pumps. The pump itself, which has all the technology to deliver your insulin in the doses you set at the times you want. Then there's the infusion set, which connects the pump to your body.

Surprisingly, many people don't know that the two parts don't have to match. You can have one brand or model of insulin pump and a completely different infusion set.

The Accu-Chek infusions sets can be used with almost any brand or model of insulin pump. That includes the Accu-Chek Spirit, D-TRONplus and H-TRONplus as well as other brands such as the Animas, Cozmo and the MiniMed 5 Series.

You need to know this for your comfort. That's because not every infusion set is the same. Some go into your body straight. Some go in on an angle. Some use a steel needle. Some use a flexible cannula. To find out more about the different types of infusion sets, have a look at our last newsletter.

Probably the most comfortable style available today is the Accu-Chek FlexLink.

Fiona
This is inserted using the straight method (inserted at a 90º angle), which is generally considered easier to do. The Accu-Chek FlexLink uses a Teflon cannula which is the only part of the system that remains under your skin. It's so soft and flexible that it moves with you and can hardly be felt. And its low-profile design means it's barely visible under your clothes.

If you're one of the many people who don't like inserting the cannula at all, you'll be much happier using the Accu-Chek Link Assist.

Fiona This is a clever little device that works with the Accu-Chek FlexLink. It inserts the cannula for you, automatically and easily, and is virtually painless. You don't even need to see the cannula. It's all tucked away, all you do is press the button. And you can do that without looking too, if you prefer.

Both the Accu-Chek FlexLink and Accu-Chek LinkAssist are the latest, top of the range products, but they are actually very affordable.
The Accu-Chek FlexLink comes in packs of 10 cannula and 10 tubing sets. Then you can buy boxes of 10 cannula on their own. A set of each lasts about two months for most people. And don't forget, you can use Accu-Chek FlexLink with almost any brand or model of insulin pump.
